The Medical Careers Club of Wolsey-Wessington School will host the third annual Cancer Walk on Saturday, May 5.
This year’s theme is “Together We Fight Because Everyone Counts.” Check in and registration is from 8 to 9 a.m., and start time is at 9 a.m., with the walk to end at noon.
The walk will be held at the Wolsey-Wessington track (375 Ash St.) in Wolsey.
This year, two women who were recently treated for cancer will be honored: Jenny Haeder and Carolyn Hiles.
In the past, proceeds from the event have been donated to the people being honored. However, this year each honoree has requested that the money be donated elsewhere.
The Medical Careers Club members voted to donate all proceeds of the event to “All Women Count,” which is a South Dakota branch connected wit the national organization, “Women With Cancer.”
The organization helps women who are either under-insured or who have no health coverage pay for mammograms, pap smears and other health screenings, and—if need be—treatments.
Participants can register the morning of the walk. Balloons will also be available that can be displayed around the track during the walk, and which will be released at the end of the walk.
