Welcome back

As I look at the last movie bill from the Midway Drive-In, I know that the end of summer activities is very close. With that end near, school starting must be close as well. We will begin our official school activities on August 19 with a teacher in-service. Students will report for the first day of classes on Wednesday, August 21. Excitement of a new school year is definitely building.

Mike Ruth, Superintendent, Miller School District

Also building is a new beginning of many new things to our school and community. We are busily putting the finishing touches on the new elementary. Our custodial staff is fine-tuning the move to the new elementary and will have it ready to go. We believe this facility will be a proud part of our community for many years to come. The class of 2026, the new kindergarteners, will look back on this year as a great moment in Miller education history.

In light of the newness to our facilities, we still rely on the backbone of the educational process, the classroom teacher. We have again assembled a staff that is second to none. In a recent US News and World Report, Miller High School was ranked seventh in the state in academic achievement. We are proud of this achievement district-wide as all of our staff plays a part in achievements in our district.

The district has employed several new staff members; a new physical education teacher, K-2 language arts teacher, Millerdale colony instructor, and a new business instructor. As always, our new staff will mix with a great group of veterans and we are excited about the combination.

The summer means many things to our culture. One thing it always means to the classroom teachers is diligently preparing for the upcoming school year attending workshops, conferences, and classes. The latest in teaching techniques, uses of technology, and management skills has been viewed and learned, to be implemented this year.

This improvement is not confined to just our educators. We have again assembled a great support staff as well. From custodians to teaching assistants, we have some of the very best people around. These groups of individuals have also spent some of their own time to make our district the best it can be.

As another summer of fun activities draws to a close I am excited for another great school year. Whether the greeting is “Welcome Aboard,” “Welcome Back” or simply “Welcome,” we are thrilled to have you a part of our school community.
