Moisture minus storm damage in the communities was received Thursday and Saturday nights. Anywhere from .75 near Polo, to .95 west of Polo, .30 east of Polo and .85 south of Polo were some of the reports from Thursday night.

After Saturday night’s rain it was .45 near Polo, east was .30 and south .40. According to Rex Young at the Farmers Elevator in Orient they had .30 and .45 from the Thursday and Saturday night rains.



June 16, the Maurice and Kathryn Schlechter family gathered at Polo to celebrate Father’s Day and Maurice’s 85th birthday. Attending along with Maurice and Kathryn were: Doris Juhnke and Kim Juhnke, Chamberlain; Mike Schlechter, Miller; Mary and Kevin Neuhauser, Midland; Jean and Kevin Engen, Brookings; Carol and Mike Goodrich, Crooks; Kristi VanDe Rostyne, Hartford, and Amy Goodrich, Vermillion; Rob and Sheila Schlechter, Miller; Chelsey Schlechter, Sioux Falls; Gaylon and Cindy Gerber, Shelby and Connor, Pierre; Jeff and Kathy Schulz, Aberdeen; Megan Schulz, Brookings; and Brian Juhnke and friend Alexandra, Chamberlain.

Several of the Polo CCD students ages four through fourth grade attended Vacation Bible School with St. Ann students and Miller area churches, hosted at Trinity Lutheran Church June 17-20.

Ron and Sharon Wieseler recently spent a week in Washington, D. C. visiting Matt and Amy Wieseler, Xavier and Felix.  While there they also had a chance to visit with Mike Bucher, who lives in the area.

Wednesday, June 19, Irene (Huss) Cordts celebrated her 102nd birthday. Among the Orient area relatives she personally called individually to invite them to her party at the Faulkton Healthcare were Jack and JoAnn Schaefers, Chuck and Sharon Huss, Craig Huss, Terry and Bev Huss, Eugene Bowar and Sandy Sprenger.

Also among the 28 guests around the table were her brothers Leo and Connie Huss, Kenny and Lorraine Huss, sister-in-law Dorothy Huss and Father Joji.

Jeanette Knock was home to visit Ray and Judy Schaefers over the weekend from Sioux Falls.

Mike and Ann Schaefer accompanied by Brian and Allison Schaefer, Brooklyn and Brayden who were here from Parker, Colo., visited Scot and Kristina Schaefer, Olivia and Harper in Sioux Falls the end of May. They went especially to attend Olivia’s dance recital.

Earlier in June Ann flew to Thornton, Colo. to be with Jason and Sarah Schaefer for some special baby sitting time with Jackson and Katherine. Afterwards Jackson got to spend some time visiting with his grandparents Mike and Ann on the farm at Polo.


The descendants of Phil and Mary Wernsmann held their annual family reunion in Kimball. The hosts were: Philip and Chris Wernsmann of Coon Rapids Iowa; Marina Wernsmann, Rock Springs Wyo.; Dawn Wernsmann, Webster; and Virgil Wernsmann, Kimball.

Attending were Maurice and Kathryn Schlechter, Polo; Betty Schlechter, Redfield; Lori Schlechter and Brianna Dinger, Pekin, N.D.; Barb and Leon Kolda, Polo; Larry and Leonda Anglin, Miller; Ed Anglin, Sioux Falls; Luke and Suzy Wernsmann, Miller; Joan and Lloyd Simons, Karen and Rich Schlaak, Tony and Val Wernsmann, McKenzie and Jace, all of Pierre; Mary Neuhauser of Midland; Cindy Gerber, Pierre; Sheila and Rob Schlechter and Mike Schlechter of Miller; Carol Goodrich, Crooks. and Kristi VanDeRostyne of Hartford.


Word was received of the death of Sally Bushfield, age 91. She died Sunday, June 23 in Sun City, Ariz., where she and Huck have been making their home since leaving Miller. She is the sister of Kay Martinmaas and Jack Schaefers.
