Wayne J. Pietz, age 62, of Florence, S.D., died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the hospital in Watertown, S.D. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 5, Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Roger Spahr officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were the Lake Area Tech faculty and staff.
Wayne was born on July 31, 1950, at Huron, S.D., to Ray and Floy (Roeber) Pietz. He graduated from Highmore High School, Highmore, S.D. Following graduation, he attended Western Tech College in Denver, Colo., and later received his bachelor’s degree from SDSU on December 11, 2004.
On August 1, 1970, Wayne married Nancy Barnes at Harrold, SD. The couple lived in Denver, Colo., and Aberdeen, S.D. They moved to Watertown where Wayne taught diesel mechanics and CNH training at Lake Area Tech from 1981 to 2013. In 1997, they built an acreage near Florence.
He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and the NRA. He was also a former member of the Jaycees. Wayne enjoyed raising cattle and custom haying. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Florence; three children, Joseph (Jen) Pietz of Brandon, S.D., Justin (Lehla) Pietz of Watertown, S.D., and Brenda Pietz Spicer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Landen, Trevor and Jesse Pietz; one brother, Eldon (Linda) Pietz, of Watertown, S.D.; and two sisters, Linda (Wes) Eidem and Sandy Skalla, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
