The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds got a big 281 conference win on Tuesday, February 12, as they defeated the Patriots of Hitchcock/Tulare 66-50 on Tuesday, February 12. The battle started from the get-go as the Patriots came ready to play. They held a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter as the Warbirds struggled offensively. That all changed in the second quarter as the inside game of the Warbirds took over with Alex Babcock scoring nine of his ten points, to give the Warbirds a 33-22 lead going into the second half. That pace continued as the Warbirds found their stride, with their full court offense and smothering defense, to seal the win.
Five players saw double figures. Along with Alex Babcock's 10 points, Lorenzo Williams put in 18; Ryan Sprecher had 13; Hayden Hooks put in 12 and Roy Lumpkin was good for 10. Chris Williams added four to fill the score column. Lorenzo Williams pulled down eight boards and had five steals. Hooks led the assist column with seven and had four steals.
The JV team struggled against a very physical Patriot team, as they were defeated 23-41. Cole McGehee was the work horse as he scored 10 points, had seven rebounds and picked up three steals in the game. Carter Langbehn, Andrew McKown and Hunter Johnson all had four counters and Tanner Waters put in one.
