The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds fell to the James Valley Christian Vikings, 58-66, in the championship game of the 281 Conference Tournament on Thursday night, February 17. The game was close from the opening whistle.

The Vikings had a 18-14 edge at the end of the first quarter. The Warbirds outscored the Vikings in the 2nd stanza, to take a 28-27 lead at the half mark. The third quarter was much the same , but the Vikings managed a 48-44 advantage going into the final round.

The Warbirds' offense stumbled and they found themselves having to foul to get the ball. As the seconds ticked away, the Warbirds just couldn't get the ball to go and went down in defeat for the first time this season.

Alex Babcock put in a game high 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds as he played an awesome game on both ends of the court. Lorenzo Williams was also in double figures with 11. He pulled down eight boards and was credited with seven assists. Hayden Hooks got nine in the game; Ryan Sprecher with eight; Roy Lumpkin, 6; and Ryne Johnson and Chris Williams each with two.

The game was a physical battled from the get go with numerous fouls called on both teams. These two teams will meet again in a regular season matchup in February.

Warbirds defeated by James Valley Vikings
