The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds advanced to the semi-finals of the 281 Conference Basketball Tournament, when they defeated the Wessington Springs Spartans, 84-24, in the opening round on Saturday, January 12, at Wolsey.
The Warbirds jumped out to a 34-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued that pace throughout the contest, with thirteen players seeing floor time. Lorenzo Williams led the scoring with 29 points, 16 of them in the first quarter. Roy Lumpkin put in 12 and Hayden Hooks got 11.
Randy Neuharth, coming off the bench had 8; Jevin Scott, 7; Alex Babcock, 6; Ryan Sprecher, and Andrew McKown, both with 3; Cole McGehee and Hunter Johnson, each with 2; and Ryne Johnson, with 1.
Neuharth pulled down 6 rebounds and Williams had 5. Hooks led the assist column with 8 and Lumpkin had 5. Williams was credited with 7 steals in the contest.
