Volleyball Update 10-9-13

On October 3rd, 2013 the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds traveled to Forestburg to compete in the first round of the 281-Tournament against Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders. The Warbirds came out on top with scores of 17-25, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-5.

Leading the Warbirds in offense was Ashley Eggleston, Brittany Bergquist Monica Hentzi, Abbey Tschetter Meagan Eggleston, and Jayden McCready.

In serving, A. Eggleston went 27/28 with eight aces. Bergquist served 17/18 with also 8 aces, and Hentzi served 15/15 with four aces. Setting for the Warbirds, Jayden McCready went 55/56 with five assists, A Eggleston set 40/41 with 10 assists, and Tschetter set four for four with one assist.

Attacking against the Crusaders was Hentzi with 22/25 with six kills. Tschetter attacked with 19/19 and M. Eggleston went 11/12 and also succeeded in six kills.

Defending the Warbirds, Bergquist attained 12/15 digs and five out of eight attempted blocks. M Eggleston also contributed 11/12 digs and one out of two blocks. Bailey Zerfoss also helped the Warbirds with 10/13 digs and Abbey Tschetter helped block with three out of four.

The Warbirds next game was also in Forestburg with the continuance of the 281 Tournament. The Warbirds fought against Highmore/Harrold and Sanborn Central.

Against the Highmore/Harrold Pirates, the Warbirds fought a tough battle but came out defeated in the end with the scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-13, 22-25.

On defense, Zerfoss had 26/29 digs, with M. Eggleston at 12/13 and A. Eggleston 7/10. Blocking for the Warbirds, Bergquist had 9/18 blocks with four assists and Tschetter had 7/9 with two assists.

Offensively, Hentzi served up 18/19 with three aces and set 39 for 39 with five assists and 16/18 attacks with three kills. Zerfoss served 11 for 11, and M. Eggleston went 9/9 in serving and 18/23 in attacking with five kills. Also helping offensively for the Warbirds was Jayden McCready 36/36 with eight assists and Bergquist with 31/40 attacks and 11 kills.

In game three, the Warbirds fell to the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks with scores of 20-25, 25-20, 10-25, 20-25.

In offense, Hentzi served 13/14 with three aces, Zerfoss was 10/13, and Tschetter had nine of 13 serves with four aces.

Setting, Jayden McCready was 46/46 with 13 assists and A. Eggleston was 38/40 also with 13 assists. M. Eggleston attained 27/29 attacks with two kills, while Tschetter had 18/22 with five kills and Bergquist had 14/14 with eight kills.

Defensively, Zerfoss achieved seven out of nine digs, M. Eggleston had six for seven, and Tschetter also contributed four for seven digs. On blocking, Tschetter and Bergquist defending the Warbirds with four out of five and two out of four respectively. Bergquist also had one assist on blocking as well.

The next game for the Warbirds is against Iroquois on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013. The game will take place at Iroquois.
