My apologies to Jean Hamiel, our July Shining Star of the Month. I should have gone to the source instead of taking someone else’s word on the correct spelling of your name. Congratulations, again, on being our July Shining Star of the Month.
Miller United Methodist Church held the worship service Sunday, June 23. Pastor Mark Johnsen led singing, accompanied by Sue Jones on piano. Scripture was Galatians 3:10-14 and Galatians 6:12-18. Pastor Johnsen’s sermon was titled “The Symbols of Our Faith,” with emphasis on the symbol of the cross. He said, “Ultimately, for us today, the cross has become a symbol of redemption.”
Small group participants played Shake Loose a Memory Monday afternoon.
Several residents took a bus ride around town Monday afternoon. Some of the places they saw were the new elementary school building, the city park and the golf course.
Father Chester Murtha, St. Ann Catholic Church, celebrated Mass Tuesday morning.
Bingo games were played Tuesday afternoon. Helpers were Darlene Cox, Dorothy Engelmann, Kaye Fawcett, Violet Moncur, Maylou Oakley, LaVonne Puffer, Doris Schultz, Charlotte Taylor and Janice Wilbur.
After Bingo, Verna Lyons’ second cousin (Margunn Hetland-Satte and her husband Joleiv), from Sauchness, Norway, sang songs in Norwegian and she played piano music.
During social time after Bingo fresh veggies, fruit and leftover homemade ice cream were served.
Agnes Kolda led Wednesday morning Rosary. Men’s Coffee was also served that morning.
Pastor Scot Tutt, St. Lawrence Community Church, led a Bible study Wednesday afternoon on Matthew 6:26; 33 (“Don’t worry”). Gertrude Pautsch played piano for the singing portion of the service. Darrelyn Tutt played piano afterwards and read a poem.
Card games were played Wednesday evening.
Residents helped make meltless, eggless dubro birthday cake during Thursday morning baking time.
In the afternoon, residents played card games and solved word puzzles…and ate the cake from the baking time.
Board games were played Thursday evening.
Selections were taken from the June/July 2013 “Reminisce” magazine for Friday morning reading time. Two of the selections were “Attack of the Sci Fi Movie” by Marija Potkonjak-Audric, and “Daddy’s Home,” by Jack Healey.
Pastor Scot Tutt led a memorial service Friday morning for Vera Walberg. Avis Auch played piano for the service. Condolences continue to go to Vera’s family; we miss her dearly, too.
Residents bought ice cream treats from Karly Beckett, the “ice cream lady,” during outdoor time Friday afternoon.
