Miller students from grades five through eight met January 7 in the fifth-grade classroom taught by Sandra Sivertsen for the Miller School Geography Bee. Each class had a winner in the preliminary competition.
Fifth grade winners were Remington Harrell and Tyler Schumacher; sixth grade, Torrey Anson and Hunter Sporrer; seventh grade, Liz Smith and Deric Diede; eighth grade, Maycee Mohr and Trevor Parmely.
Battling for the win were Trevor Parmely and Torrey Anson. Parmely was declared the winner after answering the most questions correctly.
He will now take a qualifying test for the State Geography Bee, to be held April 5. The 25th National Geography Bee will be held May 20-22 in Washington, D.C.
This year’s Bee is sponsored by Google. “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek will moderate the national finals on May 22.
