Thanksgiving’s over, but not the pool Friendship Center 11-28-12

Now that everyone has survived the Thanksgiving food and visits, and the Friday/ Saturday/Sunday shopping, it is time to get back to basics.

In pool news this past week, Monday, Nov. 19 started off with an amazing run of lucky breaks and good shooting for one team and a reversal of good fortune for the other team. Before the final bell had even rung, George Mogle and Jesse Hammer had won seven straight games vs Dr. Jim DeGeest and Bob Slunecka. “Not to be denied and to uphold their honor, Jim and Bob came back strong to win the eighth game. Final score in the daily 8-ball series was seven to one in favor of George and Jesse. The ‘Championship of the World’ game was a real barn-burner. Victory was almost on the cue sticks of DeGeest and Slunecka, but once again ‘The Hammer’ drilled the 8-ball in the corner pocket to nail down the victory and the two championship crowns for the day. The final score does not indicate how close all the games were on this Monday. Just a few more breaks and Dr. Jim and Sir Robert would have gone home the victors. One of our Thanksgiving blessings is that our ‘young senior’ age we can still enjoy the camaraderie of friends at the Friendship Senior Center and a good game of pool.”

Tuesday, Nov. 20: All bets were off Tuesday, as the teams of Warren Skinner and Phil Testerman squared off in some 8-ball pool games against Arnold Johnson and Jesse Hammer. With some accurate shot-making Arnold and Jesse blitzed the team of Warren and Phil to win the first five games they played. “However, Skinner and Testerman cleared the fog and won two straight before losing the next two games to Johnson and Hammer. The result of the daily 8-ball series was Arnold and Jesse seven games to only two games for Warren and Phil. The real test for Testerman and Skinner came in the ‘Championship of the World’ game. They passed the test with flying colors. The game came down to the 8-ball and Skinner finished off the Johnson-Hammer team by sinking the 8-ball to claim the victory for his team.” Final score: Johnson-Hammer 7 wins, and Skinner-Testerman 3 wins.
