The Miller Rustlers track team participated in the Huron track meet Friday, April 5.

According to head coach Tom McGough, the track meet gives Miller an opportunity to compete against five excellent AA schools – Aberdeen Central, Pierre, Mitchell, Huron and Watertown. Other teams competing were Redfield and James Valley Christian.

Place winners are the top five in individual events and the top three relay teams.

Emma Steers wasted no time in qualifying for the State Track Meet in the 100-meter hurdles.

McGough commented, “Our kids have the mindset that we can go up against anyone and be successful. We use this meet as a gage in knowing where we are and what we need to do to improve. I was very pleased with her and all our athletes in their preparation and performance throughout the meet. Everyone was focused on what needed to be done and followed through during competition. We need to realize what we need to continue to do throughout the season in getting better.”

Girls’ results:

300-meter hurdles – Emma Steers – first – 49.8

100-meter hurdles – Emma Steers – 15.8 - State Qualifier

Triple jump – Jamie Mentzer – fifth – 33’1”
