The Miller City Council held a special meeting Friday, Feb. 22.
Following an executive session, the council voted to hire Sheila Coss as the new City Finance Officer, effective March 18.
Coss, who is presently the Hand County Register of Deeds, will fill the position now held by Laura Smith, whose last day is March 29. Ten persons applied for the position.
In other action, the council heard an update on a lagoon lease request made at the February 19 meeting by Lynn Harrell. Harrell asked permission to assume the remaining time on a lease presently held by Dave and Rich Nelson. The City has leased the land by the lagoon, for farming purposes. The City attorney has studied the request, and action will be taken at the next regular meeting, scheduled for March 4.
The council approved a resolution, which endorses the Family Crisis Center in Redfield as a center that serves Hand County residents touched by domestic/family violence.
