Miller runners Cole Sargent, left, and Mason Breitling, right, competed in the 3200-meter run Thursday at the Region Track Meet in Miller. Breitling won and Sargent placed second, both qualified for the state meet.

At the high school Region 6A Track Meet at Miller May 16, the girls won regional competition and the boys placed third. Seventeen qualified for the state meet.

In addition, Emma Steers (100 meter hurdles) and Jamie Mentzer (triple jump) shattered school records.

Coach Tom McGough said, “There are many other accomplishments that our athletes experienced throughout the Region Meet. The main point is, our athletes competed and competed well. Many of them set school as well as personal records.”

McGough continued, “We emphasize when you are well prepared and do your best, everything else will fall in place. We instill in our student athletes to strive to do your best, raising expectations of what can be accomplished. I felt everyone did just that and reaped the rewards by what was accomplished.”

As the season comes to conclusion, McGough commented, “There is a sense of personal and team satisfaction when you see hard work and dedication pay off.”

“I am very proud the performance of our athletes. Throughout the season, everyone improved, continually understanding what was possible if we stayed focused on what needed to be done.”
