SBA advances in District Tourney

The Sunshine Bible Crusaders girls’ basketball team defeated the Faulkton Trojans in the opening round of district play by a score of 47-43 in overtime. The game was even from the start, as the first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie. The Trojans took the lead in the second quarter by a score of 22-16 at halftime. The Crusaders batted back to within three points after the third quarter, by a score of 27-24. The Crusaders evened the score in the fourth quarter with 17 points while holding the Trojans to 14 points, making the score 41-41 to take the game into overtime.

In the overtime period. the Crusaders outscored the Trojans by a score of 6-2, bringing the final score to 47-43 in favor of the SBA Crusaders.

The Crusaders were able to shoot 32 percent from the field at 15-36 and 54 percent from the free throw line at 15-28 for the game. The Trojans shot 31 percent from the field at 16-52 and 70 percent from the free throw line at 7-10 for the game. The Crusaders out-rebounded the Trojans by a tally of 35-31.

Leading the way for the Crusaders was Tricia Wilken, who scored 25 points. Shanna Moreland netted seven points and a team high 10 rebounds.

The Trojans were led by Megan Haberling, netting 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Kaitlin Heitman netted 13 points in the loss for the Trojans.
