Sally Meyer, age 85, of Huron, S.D., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the SunQuest Health Care Center. Her funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andrew Crandall officiating. Interment was at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Memorials may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation or Huron First Presbyterian Church. Sally Jane Dwyer was born August 28, 1928, to Frank and Martina (Schoenert) Dwyer at Minot, N.D. She graduated from Huron High School in 1946. After graduation she worked for N.P. Benson Optical Company as a receptionist, billing and mail clerk.
In 1952, she moved to Freeport, Illinois, and was a billing clerk at Micro Switch. In 1955, she started working as a billing clerk in the Treasurer’s Office of Beadle County. In 1988, she started working at Pizza Hut in Huron as a doughmaster for 5 years. She worked at Happy Chef as a prep cook and a greeter, and also as a clerk at Lewis Drug.
She married Robert “Dutch” Meyer on March 23, 1956, and moved on a farm near Wolsey, S.D. The couple later moved to Huron.
Sally was an organist for 28 years at the Wolsey Presbyterian Church and served as secretary at the church for several years.
She was a member of Chapter F P.E.O. for 65 years. She was also a member of Quiz Extension Club for 25 years and Circle One of the Huron United Presbyterian Church and both Wolsey and Huron Presbyterian Churches. She was also a member of the Wolsey and Huron Senior Centers.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Dutch Meyer of Huron; one son, Jeff (Melanie) Meyer of Stevenson Ranch, Calif.; three daughters, Martina (Rich) Ferris of Breckenridge, Colo., Suzy (Greg Page) Meyer-Page of Kane, Pa., and Sandy Mellen of Freeport, Ill.; five grandchildren, Meagan Meyer of Brainerd, Minn., Emily (Chris) Lindsey of Littleton, Colo., Ben Ferris of Breckenridge, Colo., Trisha Mellen of Mount Carroll, Ill., and Jeremy Mellen of Champlin, Minn.; one great-grandson, Kagyn and another one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Helen Merritt and Jack Dwyer; one sister-in-law, Gerdine Dwyer; and one brother-in-law, Harold Merritt.
