Rustlers up record to 9-2 with pair of victories

The Rustlers boys’ basketball team opened a successful week with a pair of home victories over District rivals, the Chamberlain Cubs on Tuesday, Jan. 22 by a score of 53-44, and Region foes the Cheyenne/Eagle Butte Braves on Friday, Jan. 25 by a score of 63-53.

The Rustlers opened against the rival Cubs, playing to a 25-25 tie at halftime. A strong third quarter both offensively and defensively, the Rustlers scored 14 points and allowed just four. That allowed the Rustlers to get ahead and stay ahead for the remainder of the game.

The Rustlers were led by Beau Keeter coming off the bench, scoring 24 points, six rebounds and a team high four steals. Haydn Herman was the Rustlers’ other double-figure scorer with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Preston Blackwell netted seven points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Lee Sivertsen added six points along with seven rebounds and a steal. Drew Beilke added five points along with a rebound and a steal.

Skyler Bertram led the way for the Cubs with 12 points. Reuben Estes and Gage Bastings each added 11 points for the Cubs.

Friday, the Rustlers hosted the Cheyenne/Eagle Butte Braves, bringing home the 63-53 victory. The Rustlers were led in scoring by Lee Sivertsen with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Beau Keeter added 13 points off the bench to go along with six rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist. Preston Blackwell netted 12 points to go along with a team high—nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Haydn Herman netted 11 points to go with six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Drew Beilke added four points, four rebounds and an assist. Mason Chapin added three points along with a rebound and a steal. Brendan Letsche added three rebounds for the Rustlers. Kris Wharton added a rebound and an assist.

The Braves were led by 20 points from Xavier Norris.
