Rustlers season ended at hands of Chieftains

The Miller Rustlers girls’ basketball team had their season cut short by the Crow Creek Chieftains by a score of 61-57 in the first round of district tournament play on Tuesday night, Feb. 19 in Miller.

The Chieftains took the early lead at 14-13 after the first quarter. The Chieftains extended their lead in the second quarter, with a score of 28-26 at halftime. The game remained close as neither team could pull away in the second half and the Chieftains maintained the two point lead after the third period at 45-43 heading in to the fourth period where the Chieftains extended their lead to four, to take the victory 61-57.

Jamie Mentzer led the Rustlers, scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Kristen Peterka netted nine points, grabbing five rebounds. Senior Jansen Hunter netted six points while grabbing a team high 12 rebounds in her final high school contest. Jaden Kellogg also finished her high school basketball career scoring four points.

The Chieftains were led by three players scoring in double figures with Evaline Arrow leading the way with 19 points. Tracy He Crow and Talia Colombe added 18 and 10 points respectively for the Chieftains.
