The Miller Rustlers girls’ basketball took on the Highmore-Harrold Lady Pirates at Highmore, in each team’s regular season finale on Valentine’s Day.
The Lady Pirates took the narrow 56-54 victory, but the Rustlers started out strong, taking the lead after the first quarter at 15-8.
The Rustlers extended their lead to nine in the second quarter, to lead 31-22 at halftime.
The Pirates began their comeback in the third quarter but still trailed the Rustlers by a score of 40-36 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates were able to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter, and took the victory 56-54.
Jamie Mentzer led Rustlers scoring with 17 points and seven rebounds. Jansen Hunter, Kristen Peterka and Denae Schlechter each added 11 points for the Rustlers.
McKenzee Zilverberg led the Pirates with 17 points. Tyann Hamlin added 16 points and Courtney Keller added 15 points for the Pirates.
The Rustlers’ next action is Tuesday, Feb. 19 when they will host the Crow Creek Chieftains in the first round of district play.
In JV action, the Miller girls also lost a close game, with a final score of 27 to Highmore-Harrold’s 31.
