The Miller Rustlers boys’ basketball team lost a hard-fought battle in their season opener by a score of 50-47 to the Potter County Battlers in Gettysburg on December 11.
The game was close throughout, with the Battlers taking the lead in the opening quarter 14-13. The Rustlers gained the lead at halftime with a score of 25-21. The Battlers regained the lead after the third period by a score of 36-35. The Battlers extended their lead in the fourth quarter to capture the victory by a final of 50-47.
Preston Blackwell led the Rustlers with a double-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and one assist. Drew Beilke added 10 points, two steals, an assist and a rebound. Lee Sivertsen netted seven points and corralled five rebounds. Sivertsen dished out two assists and had one blocked shot. Hayden Herman added five points, grabbing five rebounds and a steal. Beau Keeter added four points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. Brendan Letsche added two points, grabbing one rebound while dishing out one assist. Kris Wharton grabbed one rebound for the Rustlers. Chayce Hall led the Battlers with 12 points.
Potter County won the junior varsity contest by a score 41-38. Mason Chapin led the Rustlers with 18 points. Beau Keeter added 11 points with Cody Breland adding four points.
Potter County swept all the games with a “C” team victory by a score of 29-18. Tate Ketelhut, Jason Manning, Lane Johnson and Nick Ortmeier each had four points to lead the Rustlers.
