Rustlers fall to Falcons on Parents’ Night
The Miller Rustlers girls’ basketball team hosted the Todd County Falcons during a double-header February 9. The Rustler girls honored their parents with Parents’ Night, but fell to the Falcons by a score of 68-59.
The Rustlers fell behind early, trailing after the first quarter by a score of 15-12. The Falcons extended their lead in the second quarter to lead by nine at 36-27 at halftime.
During the halftime intermission the Rustlers honored the senior female athletes from all sports with a presentation for girls and women in sports day. Athletes honored were Cassandra Coss, Jonni Blake, Jansen Hunter, Kirstyn Fiala, Emma Steers and Jaden Kellogg.
The Rustlers fought back to within six at 50-44 at the end of the third period; however, the Falcons put the game away in the fourth quarter, pulling away to win by nine at 68-59.
The Rustlers were led by Jansen Hunter and Jamie Mentzer, each with 18 points. Hunter led the Rustlers with 10 rebounds while Mentzer led the Rustlers with five assists, adding nine rebounds. Kristen Peterka added 11 points and six rebounds.
Erin Grimshaw led the Falcons with 23 points, and Kelsey Sharkey added 17 points in the win.
The next action for the Rustlers will be in their regular season finale Thursday, Feb. 14 in Highmore.
