Rustlers dominate Midgets

The Miller Rustler football team defeated the McLaughlin Midgets 59-0 by halftime in McLaughlin on Friday night.

The Rustlers dominated from the open, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and 31 points in the second quarter.

Kris Wharton led the Rustlers, rushing on with 79 yards on just four attempts scoring a touchdown on every run. Lee Sivertsen added three attempts for 63 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown run. Austin Schaff rushed three times for 35 yards. Wyatt Strasburg and Devon Gnat each added a touchdown run for the Rustlers.

The Rustlers had only nine yards passing in the contest with Lee Sivertsen completing both of his attempts for six yards. Devon Gnat completed the only pass he attempted for three yards. Wyatt Strasburg was the leading receiver with two catches for six yards. Riley Mullaney had a catch for three yards

Sam Simons led the Rustlers defensively with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown. Luke Simons had a fumble recovery for the Rustlers.

The Midgets gained 71 total yards, with 41 pass yards and 30 rushing yards. Austin Sitting Dog led the way for the Midgets with 22 yards on nine rushing attempts and 27 yards on four of nine passes.


STATE RUNNERS-UP. The Jan Busse Ford/Kroeplin Concrete coed softball team competed in the state tournament September 8-9 in Mitchell. After losing their first game of the tournament, they battled back to win 10 games in a row to capture the state runner-up title in Division “C.” Scores were: L 12-13; W 11-7; W 9-0; W 24-10; W 26-9; W 10-5; W 16-4; W 7-5; W 8-1; W 11-10; W 12-10; L 9-16.
