ROOST kids make bird feeders out of graham crackers, peanut butter and cereal.
This week at the Rustler Roost focused on learning about birds. During the week the children had opportunities to create bird feeders, make bird crafts, and read about birds.
The bird theme allowed for many crafting projects. The kids made birds out of painted styrofoam cups, paper, feathers and wiggly eyes. They also made birds in a nest using paper plates, and owls using toilet paper rolls. The kids colored different pictures of birds on special paper that looked like stained glass when hung in a window. They are now decorating our room at the Roost.
During the week we also talked about bird habitats and feeding birds. The kids worked together to make two bird feeders using graham crackers, peanut butter, and cereal. We have some very persistent kids, as it was a trick to get the peanut butter to hold the walls of the bird feeder together!
Our plot at the community garden is doing quite well! The kids took their turn weeding the garden and checking out the growing plants. They were quite surprised at all of the flowers on our plants and are excited to see the vegetables soon! Spinach was harvested and taste tested.
On Friday the kids took a walk to the nursing home where they had a chance to play board games and interact with the residents. Hopefully we’ll get another game day in before school starts!
