Rustler girls split with District rivals

The Miller Rustlers girls’ basketball team played a pair of games against district rivals, Crow Creek and Chamberlain. The Rustlers started the week with a 65-56 win over the Crow Creek Chieftains on Tuesday night, January 15, in Stephan. The Rustlers led at halftime by a score of 28-20. The Chieftains closed the gap to four in the third quarter, making the score 43-39 before the Rustlers took control for good in the fourth, extending the lead to nine at 65-56.

The Rustlers were led by a double-double from Jansen Hunter with 32 points and 17 rebounds. Jamie Mentzer added eight points and 11 rebounds. Kristen Peterka and Annie Fulton each added eight points for the Rustlers. Denae Schlechter added five points with Jaden Kellogg and DJ Alverson netting two points each for the Rustlers. Evaline Arrow led the Lady Chieftains with 28 points.

Thursday, Jan. 17, the Rustlers played host to the Chamberlain Cubs, taking the loss by a score of 56-34. The Cubs led throughout increasing their lead in each quarter, leading after the first half by a score of 26-19. They extended their lead after the third quarter to 15 at 42-27.

Mentzer led the Rustlers with nine points, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out five assists. Peterka netted eight points for the Rustlers. Fulton netted seven points. Hunter added six points and a team high 11 rebounds. Schlechter and Alverson each netted two points for the Rustlers.

The Cubs were led by Kennedy Wagner with 18 points while Abby Handal and Alex Pederson netted 11 points each for the Cubs.
