Ruby was born of German heritage on July 12, 1916, in Delmont, S.D. to Richard and Christina Gross. She was raised on a farm near Miller, S.D., along with five brothers and two sisters: Richard, Elmer, Albert, Howard, Lillian (Lagge), Esther (Nilsson), and Edwin, all predeceased.
She married Reuben Matter, her devoted husband of 66 years, on January 22, 1947.
Reuben and Ruby moved the family from Miller to Seattle, Wash. in 1966. They were members of Lakeridge Lutheran Church until their move to Panorama Retirement Community in Lacey, Wash. in 1999. The Panorama Memory Care staff and caregivers dignified her life with love and respect.
She had a generous heart, and she loved bringing joy to others. She dearly missed her extended family and looked forward to each reunion. Shopping, crossword puzzles, road trips, gardening, and Mariner games were also true enjoyments in her life.
Ruby was truly dedicated to her home and family and is lovingly remembered by her husband, Reuben; her son, Mark Matter (Barbara); her daughter, Marlys Everson (Robert); three grandchildren, Joshua Everson (Annie), Cara Aeschliman (Peter), and Michelle Caro (Antonio); and three great-grandchildren, Rogue and Huxley Everson, and Frieda Caro.
