The Wessington Library Board of Trustees met on April 24th. Those present were: Donna Runge, Shirley Runge, Betty Davis, Kathy Miller, Donna Noyes and Deanne Rowen.
The minutes and treasurers reports were read and approved. Kathy made a motion, second by Shirley and passed to pay all the outstanding bills.
Donna Runge was very busy compiling paperwork regarding the library’s By-Laws for Wessington; the library’s Materials Selection Policy; and the library’s Policy of Service. Each board member was presented with a copy to study and vote on at our next meeting. She also plans to check on Disaster Preparedness for the library.
The board discussed the book discussion group for the “One Book South Dakota” selection this year. It is titled “The Long-Shining Waters” by Danielle Sosin. It was the winner of the 2011 Milkweed National Fiction Prize. It consists of three stories whose characters are separated by centuries and circumstance, yet connected across time by the place they inhabit. Lana Eichstadt will lead the discussion group. People may sign up at the library or contact one of the board members. This helps us know how many books to order. There is no cost and the books are returned following the discussion. We may “possibly” hold this on Sunday afternoon on June 23rd. However, this date could change also.
Further May Basket Party plans were also discussed for Saturday, April 27th at 2:00 PM at the library.
The Summer Reading Program sheets will soon be ready to sign up for in June. Story Hour will be held every Wednesday afternoon.
Donna sent a copy of our Annual Report to the City and also sent them a request to approve Kathy Miller and Donna Noyes as our new board members.
Donna stated that $150.00 was made for the library at the recent town’s Fish Fry. Joe and Lisa Fritzsche bid and purchased the quilt.
Our next meeting will be held on May 22nd.
