Opal Roach 1925-2012

Opal Roach, 87, of White Bear Lake, Minn., formerly of Rockham, S.D., died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Comfort of Homes Nursing Home in White Bear Lake, Minn.

The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 6 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Miller. Burial followed at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller. Friends and family may sign Opal’s online register at www.remboldfuneralhome.com.

Opal Jean DeGeest was born August 5, 1925 to Cornelius and Grace (Wilson) DeGeest. She attended grade school at North School by Ree Heights, S.D. She graduated from Miller High School in 1943.

On February 21, 1944, she and Robert Roach were united in marriage in Wessington, S.D. During their marriage they lived on a farm in northern Hand County. They had five daughters: Connie, Cheryle, Bobbie, Debbie and Susan.

Opal joined the Catholic Church after she and Robert married. She loved flowers and gardening, music, playing cards with friends and neighbors, golfing and traveling.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five daughters, Connie (Bob) Haigh of Madison, S.D., Cheryle (Steve) O’Connell of Beloit, Wis., Bobbie Sargent of New Richmond, Wis., Debbie (Mike) Doyle of Shoreview, Minn., and Susan Carlsten of South St. Paul, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, Tonya (Rich) Little, Terri Nelson, Chad (Kari) Sargent, Troy (Tara) Sargent, Michelle (Garrett) Helling, Corrie Doyle, Danielle (Brandon) Broxey, Jake (Natalie) Carlsten, Jesse Carlsten, Molly Carlsten, Amanda O’Connell and Brendan O’Connell; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Marylou Saville of Pomona, Calif.; and brother Robert DeGeest of Redfield, S.D.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Isabel Lechtenburg, Wilma Baule and Vera Dean.

Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Opal’s arrangements.
