New @ the Library 10-9-13

Students across the state have begun reading the new books nominated for the various state awards sponsored by the S.D. Library Association. The Prairie Bud award nominees are for students K-2 and include such titles as: Prairie Storms by Darcy Pattison; Tales for Very Picky Eaters by Josh Schneider; The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School by Laura Murray; Three Hens and a Peacock by Lester L. Laminack; Earth to Clunk by Pam Smallcomb; Love, Mouserella by David Ezra Stein. The Prairie Pasque, for students in grades 3-5, is a list of 16 books with titles such as Henry’s Adventure at the Franklin Hotel by Nancy Cartwright; Harry Houdini: The Legend of the World’s Greatest Escape Artist by Janice Weaver; Hothead by Cal Ripken Jr*.; Titanic Sinks! by Barry Denenberg; Junonia by Kevin Henkes. The Young Adult Reading Program (YARP) Teen Reads sponsors two lists, one for middle school students in grades 6-8, and a high school list for grades 9-12, both with sixteen titles. Students are able to rate and make comments on each book they read by logging on to the teen section of the SD State Library website. YARP Teen Reads middle school list includes The Raft by S.A. Bodeen; Dark of the Moon by Tracy Barrett*; Planet Middle School by Nikki Grimes*; Chomp by Carl Hiaasen*; Underdogs by Mike Lupica*. High school YARP includes: Ripper by Stefan Petrucha; The Selection by Kiera Cass*; Boy 21 by Matthew Quick; The Fault in Our Stars by John Green; Shelter by Harlan Coben*.
