Motorcycle accident causes severe injuries

Theodore F. Schaff, Sr., was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital after crashing his motorcycle on 348th Ave. five miles northwest of Ree Heights Friday night.

According to the Hand County Sheriff’s Office, at 11:08 p.m. Friday, July 19, Schaff, 57, of Ree Heights, was driving his 2006 Honda VTX1300C southbound on 348th Avenue when he braked and laid the motorcycle on his right side. The motorcycle slid on its side and came to rest in the roadway. Schaff was found several feet from the motorcycle by family members driving on the road.

He was transported to Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital by his family, with life threatening injuries, and was then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol assisted on the scene of the crash.
