The board of directors of the Mid-Dakota Rural Water System have selected four students to receive a scholarship of $500.00 each.

The recipients are Matt Halter, son of Mike and Linda Halter, from the rural area near Cavour; Michael H. Weidenbach, son of Lawrence and Barb Weidenbach from the rural area near Highmore; Johannes Gimbel, son of Melvin and Janis Gimbel from the rural area near Ree Heights; and Jordan DeBoer, son of Doug and Linda DeBoer from Miller.

Halter plans to attend South Dakota State University to study agriculture business to be an agronomist. Weidenbach plans to attend South Dakota State University to pursue a major in aviation mechanics and a minor in agronomy. Gimbel plans to attend Lake Area Technical Institute to study diesel technology. DeBoer will be attending the University of South Dakota for a degree in physical education.

The Mid-Dakota board of directors voted in the fall of 2005 to implement a scholarship program which would award a $500.00 scholarship to four successful applicants. To qualify, a student must be attending a South Dakota post-secondary educational facility; have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher; and write a 250-500 word essay on what rural water has meant to the applicant or his/her community. The student must either reside in a community that is a customer of Mid-Dakota or be a child of an individual customer of Mid-Dakota.
