Larry and Carol Gildemaster, Hazel Curtis and Joyce DuBois were Saturday guests of Jeff and Michelle Bush for Joslyn Bush’s third birthday. En route home they stopped at Catherine Fastnacht’s home and all went to supper together.
Relatives and friends gathered at the Mick and Corinne Clouser home Sunday to see April and Ben Wirth’s new baby girl, Carly Marie.
Elvin and Bonnie Guthmiller recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

Kevin and Lindsey Haider, Tate and Chantell, Redfield, called at the home of Hazel Carson and Cecil Houck at Wolsey.
Neighborly Get Together club met at Alice Wullweber’s. Lauretta Eggleston was co-hostess. Ruth Quiram and Carol Gildemaster received secret sister birthday gifts.
George and Joanne Hawk and Ruth Quiram were Wednesday callers at the John Bult home.
20 Years Ago (1993)
Brandee Eggleston left July 2 for Victoria, Australia. She will be there until August 11.
Julie, Lynn, Hallie and Chad Bartells, Cecil Houck, Jay and Lauretta Eggleston, Sandy and Dale Duxbury and boys, Christ and Sheila Christensen, Dottie and Skip Zepp, Amy and Jamie Eggleston, Jason Schwartz, and Linda and Matthew Schwartz were guests at the Dennis and Marilyn Eggleston home for a going away for Brandee Eggleston and pre-4th of July party.
Marvin and Alice Wullweber, Kirk Wullweber, Dwight, Ann, Bob and Paul Wullweber had dinner together July 2 for Paul’s birthday.
40 Years Ago (1973)
Mrs. Louise Borah was honored at an open house on her 80th birthday Sunday in the Huron Nursing Home. Children of Mrs. Borah, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tollerfson and Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Borah, were hostesses. Grandaughters, Lavonne Poulisse and Sally DuBois, served punch and coffee. Angela Huizenga, a great-granddaughter registered guests.
Huron College’s first Associate of Arts degree was presented to Miss Joyce Stegeman at the annual commencement exercises by Dr. Timmins. Granting this two year degree in the field of Secretarial Science was approved in May of 1972 by the Board of Trustees. Miss Stegeman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Stegeman, Wolsey.
The Wolsey Little Cards came from behind to take a 21-14 win in the championship game of the Wolsey Improvement Invitational. Home runs in the tournament were hit by Hortness (2) and Johnson. Time Matthews had two triples, as did McGillvrey.
50 Years Ago (1963)
A generous rain of 1.30 inches in the early morning of last Wednesday greatly improved the corn crop outlook in the Wolsey area and gave a boost generally. Temperatures have been cooler the past few days which was welcomed following the near 100 degree heat of a week ago.
Elmer Gletscher was seated as the newest member of the Wolsey Independent School Board at Monday night’s meeting of that group. He succeeds George Boston, the retiring member, who has served for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eichstadt and children attended the wedding of Mrs. Eichstadt’s niece, Miss Janice Palmer, and Mark Scott of Wessington which took place at the Wessington Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon.
60 Years Ago (1953)
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dey, Huron, at 7:01 a.m., in St. John’s Hospital, July 3, a son named Douglas Arthur. Mrs. Deyo is the former Vera Jane Prose.
Miss Joan Peteron, who will be a July bride, was honored at a miscellaneous shower at the Presbyterian Church parlors. Hostesses were Norma Lau and Jean Hawley. Games and a contest and a skit by Margie, Norma Lau, Jean Hawley, and Carol Carson provided entertainment.
Tuesday evening supper guests of Rev. and Mrs. A.L. Howland were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Kuehn and Mike, Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Bixler and family and Dean Howland. The occasion was in observance of Mrs. Kuehn’s birthday anniversary.
