Marwin H. Brown 1921-2013
Marwin H. Brown, 91, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Life Care Center in Sierra Vista. He had been a resident of Sierra Vista for 18 years.
A memorial service was held March 1 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sierra Vista. Interment was at Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Buffalo Soldier Trail.
Marwin was born December 5, 1921, in Mobridge, S.D., to William and Lillian Brown.
After completing radio operator’s school, he served as a Merchant Marine in the Pacific theater from 1942 to 1945. Following the war, he met Adela Zvonek, and the couple was married on October 26, 1947, in Wessington, S.D. Together they owned and operated Brown’s Red Owl Agency Grocery Store in Wessington for 10 years. Marwin began working for the First Bank System, and the couple lived in many towns in both South Dakota and Minnesota.
Marwin and Adela moved to Sierra Vista in 1995 to be with their two daughters and four grandchildren. He was very active in the Faith Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Masons, Shriners International and Lions Club.
He will be greatly missed as the patriarch of the Brown family, a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be remembered for his strength and spirit.
He is survived by his daughters, Vicki and Paula Brown; four grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Brown and Mike, Anna and Kevin Soo; one great-grandchild, Isaac Bear Brown; and his sister, Lucile.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adela; parents; and his younger brother, Warren.
