Luminaria ceremony to highlight Hand County Relay For Life walk

Luminarias, decorated with love and dedicated to those who have had a personal cancer fight, remind us all why finishing the fight against cancer is so important. The luminarias are in honor of those who are cancer survivors and in memory of those who lost their fight to cancer. The luminaria ceremony is a time to reflect and remember and also to celebrate those who beat the fight against cancer. The luminaria ceremony includes the reading of all the names on the luminaria bags, a solemn time and a healing process for families and it is a personal reminder of why we are fighting to beat cancer through Relay For Life.

Luminarias can be purchased from the relay teams. For information about relay teams, contact Janice Erfman at 605-354-3911. Relay teams will have luminaria bags available and extra luminaria bags can be picked up from JoAnn Testerman at Swenson’s Family Dental Clinic, Monday through Thursday. Arrangements can be made with Testerman to pick up bags by calling 605-450-1247.

People are asked to decorate their luminaria bags, since this is a personal touch and can reflect the person whose name is on the bag. Luminaria bags can also be decorated on Bank Night, July 30, at 5:30 to 7:30. All luminaria bags and lists of names need to be dropped off at Bank Night at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Supplies for decorating the bags will be available.

The Hand County Relay For Life is Sunday, August 4, from 4 to 10 p.m. at Crystal Park in Miller.
