Brings record to 4-8 for the season

The Miller Rustlers girls’ basketball team concluded a successful week that began with a 51-47 victory Thursday night, Jan. 24 in Faulkton over the Trojans, and ended the following night with a 48-46 win over the Braves of Cheyenne/Eagle Butte in Miller.

Thursday night the Rustlers battled to keep the game close through the first three quarters, falling behind by six starting the fourth quarter. But a strong fourth quarter allowed the Rustlers to pull out the come-from-behind victory.

Kristen Peterka led the Rustlers with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Jansen Hunter added a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Denae Schlechter added 10 points with Annie Fulton adding five points. Kristi Steptoe netted four points with DJ Alverson adding three points.

Kelsey Lee led the Lady Trojans with 12 points with Kelsey Martinmaas and Kaitlin Heitman each adding 10 points.

The next night the Rustlers hosted the Braves from Cheyenne/Eagle Butte, pulling out the 48-46 victory at the Miller Armory. The Rustlers took the first quarter lead 10-6, but a strong second quarter by the Braves had the Rustlers playing catch-up in the second half, as the Braves took a 23-19 lead into halftime.

The Rustlers cut the Braves’ lead down to one after the third quarter at 35-34, with the Rustlers catching and passing the Braves in the third quarter to take the win 48-46.

The Rustlers were led by Hunter with 18 points and seven rebounds, with Peterka adding 15 points and seven rebounds. Denae Schlechter added five points. DJ Alverson added four points and four rebounds for the Rustlers. Jaden Kellogg, Annie Fulton and Kristi Steptoe each netted two points for the Rustlers.

The Braves were led by Marquel Shepherd with 15 points and River Ganville with 12 points.
