Kenneth L. Miller, 77, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Miller, S.D., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
His funeral was held February 1 at the Prairie Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kan. His cremains will be buried in the St. Lawrence Cemetery at a later date.
Kenneth Leroy Miller was born August 7, 1935, in Hand County, S.D., to Sam and Verlyn (Evans) Miller. He attended grade school in Hand County and graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1953.
After high school, he and his father owned and operated the Northside Sinclair Service Station in Miller for several years.
He was always an avid lover of country music, and for a time he played accordion in his own band, Curly and the Country Boys. The group played in Hand County and the surrounding area.
He married Joan Melbourn June 22, 1958. The couple had a son, Rick. He married Martha Bachofer February 14, 1989. They had a son, Stephen.
In the early 1960s, Kenneth began a long career with the Mobil Oil Company in Anaheim, Calif., where he worked with information technology until he was transferred to Mobil’s credit card division in Kansas City, Mo., where he was employed until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife Martha; sons, Rich (Jennifer) of Raymore, Mo. and Stephen (Kendra) of Shawnee, Kan.; grandson Cody (Allyssa), and granddaughters Rikki and Avery; sister Marilyn (Gordon) Pollock of Miller; nephew Doug Pollock of Miller; nieces Patty Rogers of Orient and Paula (Joe) Fetsko of Tomball, Texas; aunt, Beryl Baysinger of Huron; uncle, Howard (Yvonne) Evans of Miller; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
