Jean Gard, 92, of Miller, S.D., died Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller. Funeral services were held Friday, April 26 at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with the Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial was at G.A.R. Cemetery. Jean Ravenscroft was born February 27, 1921 in Vayland, S.D. to Arvey and Clara (Brown) Ravenscroft. She grew up in Vayland, working in the family store with her parents and four sisters. Jean graduated from Wessington High School in 1939. After graduating from high school, she moved to Miller and worked at J.W. Johnson’s.

On March 16, 1943, she married Robert Gard. To this union three children were born. Jean spent her life taking care of her husband and children. She enjoyed coffee with friends and her main delight was making Grandma Gard blankets for her family and many friends. Grandkids always knew there were chocolate chip cookies in her freezer.

Jean enjoyed the last year of her life at the Miller Good Samaritan Center and appreciated the exceptional care she received from the staff.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, David (Ginger) Gard of Canton, Sally (Duane) Resel of Miller and Clair (Carmen) Gard of Canton; 12 grandchildren, Stephan (Lori) Resel, Stephanie (Boney) Bonebright, Sarah Resel, Heather (Todd) Johnson, Rich (Gretchen) Lundstrom, April (Brad) Klarenbeek, Whitney Gard, Amy (Shane) Bertsch, Jodi (Trevor) Ekle, Bob (Erin) Gard, Derek Gard and Brett Gard; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four sisters, Dorothy Stobbs, Velda Welbes, Eunice Siegling and Elaine Fritzsche.

Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Jean’s arrangements.
