It was supposed to be…

NONE

Jackie Wells-Fauth

I really look forward to my weekends, I admit it. There is just something about having those two days to get something done around the house that makes me happy to see the weekend arrive.

More than normally, this weekend was one of those times. I had so many things I wanted to get done. There was some writing that needed to be finished, laundry that needed to be done and even some dishes that have been hanging around for a couple of days and didn’t appear to be planning to wash themselves.

Once I had gotten those minor things done, there was also a couple of shelves in the basement storage room to go through, a closet or two that were in bad shape and then, of course, I would need to make time to watch the Oscars.

Naturally, I could scarcely wait until I was done with work on Friday. I got home and immediately set to work on the laundry. I was so exhausted after doing the laundry that I sat down in a chair to rest. I felt as though I might be coming down with a cold, so I decided to take a little nap. I went to sleep when it was still light out and woke up after it was dark.

After frantically finding some frozen food and heating it up for supper, I decided I was too tired to start anything that night. The best thing for my health would be to go straight to bed. Even the dishes could wait, they never disappeared when they were abandoned in the sink.

Saturday morning I slept in late—felt like I might be coming down with a cold. Of course, it was necessary to take some cold medicine, but right after that I was going to get right to those closets that need cleaning. I woke up two or three hours later. That cold medicine really takes it out of you!

I finally got some laundry done, and fixed a sandwich for lunch. Of course, this was so hard on my cold-ravaged body that I spent most of the afternoon napping. I had to run a couple of errands, so of course, that made me even more tired.

I was determined that the weekend not go by without something useful happening. So, I laid out my exercise mat. Then I laid upon my exercise mat. I woke up an hour and a half later. My exercise mat is not comfortable, either, so I was a while getting up, after which is was necessary to sit in a chair for a while.

By now, I’m sure you have guessed that I didn’t get anything done this weekend. The weekend that was supposed to see lots of work get done, saw lots of sleeping, napping and snoozing instead. And quite frankly, I’m quite content with that. If only the laundry room shelves weren’t in such a mess, I’d be perfectly happy with my weekend. Oh well, there’s always next weekend…
