The FSA County Office will be closed on Monday, November 12th in honor of the VETERAN’S DAY HOLIDAY.

Voting opens for FSA County Committee Election

Voting opened November 5, 2012 for the 2012 Farm Service Agency County Committee elections and producers are being encouraged to get involved by turning in their ballots before the December deadline. “All eligible farmers and ranchers can make a difference by getting involved and voting in this year’s county committee elections,” said FSA County Executive Director Mary Johnson. “County committee members provide input and make important decisions on the local administration of new disaster and conservation programs under the 2008 Farm Bill.”

Nearly 7,900 county committee members provide a link between the agricultural community and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They help deliver farm programs at the local level and make decisions on commodity price support loans and payments, conservation programs, emergency programs and payment eligibility, and other FSA programs.

Each county committee consists of three to five members who serve three-year terms. About one-third of the committee seats are up for election.

Producers must participate or cooperate in an FSA program in order to vote. Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters this week and must be returned to the local FSA office by Dec. 3, 2012.

New acreage reporting dates for 2013

Producers of perennial forage (for grazing and hay) and any fall-seeded small grains must submit their 2013 acreage report (crop certification) for those crops to the Farm Service Agency and to their crop insurance agent by November 15th, 2012. This change is part of an initiative at the national level to align acreage reporting dates between FSA and the Risk Management Agency (RMA), and to reduce the crop reporting burden on producers.
