RUTH CREAGH McPHERSON celebrates her 100th birthday.
Former Orient resident turns 100
Ruth (Creagh) McPherson, formerly of Orient, S.D., celebrated her 100th birthday on June 6, 2012 at her home in Palmdale, Calif.
It was a small gathering, with her two sons, Vernon from Huntsville, Texas, and Dave and his friend Darlene from Portland, Ore; niece Jeanie Muehl from Garden Grove, Calif; her next door neighbor of many years; and her caretaker.
Ruth was raised on the Creagh farm in the Orient/Miller area. She worked in Miller and Custer as a waitress. With the outbreak of WW II Ruth and her sister-in-law Grace Creagh moved to California and worked at Douglas Aircraft, where they became the well-known “Rosie the Riveter” girls.
When the war was over, she went back to being a waitress.
She met and married Don McPherson and helped raise his two sons. A third son was killed in a car accident after they were married.
She has had a long and happy life and still loves to make jokes and laugh. Her address is: Ruth McPherson, 38644 La Delle Ave, Palmdale, CA 93550.
