Emma Lee McCool 1941-2013
Emma Lee McCool, 72, of Tryon, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013.
Funeral services were held at the Petty Funeral Home chapel December 23. Burial was at Mountain Page Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was the youngest of 14 children born to the late Fred A. and Emma Pace Metcalf.
She was the wife of the late Gary Lyle McCool for 51 years. Gary McCool was born in Miller, S.D. in 1938 to William and Leona (McCarl) McCool, and died January 10, 2013.
Emma was a member of Fork Creek Baptist Church, Saluda, N.C., where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a strong Christian woman who lived it each and every day of her life. She was a retired teacher’s assistant, mail carrier, and a devoted caregiver to sister-in-law, Maggie Metcalf. She always put others first and cared for others more than herself.
She was the loving mother to five sons, Pat (Kim) and Kevin (Abby) of Columbus, N.C.; Ken (Jill) of Matthews, N.C.; Greg of Lynn, N.C.; and Gerald (Lori) of Landrum, S.C.; sister to L.C. Metcalf of Hendersonville, N.C. and Rev. Jim Metcalf of Russell, Mass; beloved “Grammer” to 13 grandchildren, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Locally, she is survived by sisters-in-law, Sharon Campbell of St. Lawrence, S.D., and Janice Bose of Miller, S.D.
