Elton Burke 1921-2013
Elton Burke, 91, of Miller and formerly of Orient, S.D., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.
Elton was cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring followed by burial at the Prairie View Cemetery in Orient.
Elton Burke was born July 19, 1921 in Frankfort, S.D. to Elton H. Burke and Cora (Fishel) Burke. He attended school in Orient. He lived on the Burke family farm south of Orient. He farmed with his father until his father’s death, and then continued farming until 2008, when he moved to the Good Samaritan Society. He enjoyed the numerous visits from all the family members who loved to spend time with him and enjoy the peace and quiet on the farm. He always had good stories about the history of the family and their lives.
Elton is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Kruse of Ogden, Iowa, Vivian (Bill) Johnson of Pierre, S.D., Winifred Burke of Miller, S.D., and Joan (Myron) Eggers of Custer, S.D.; two sisters-in-law: Marguerite Burke, formerly of Huron, S.D. and now Moraga, Calif., and Jean Burke of Cartersville, Ga. He will be dearly missed by his survivors, including many nieces and nephews who loved to visit with him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice (Gene) Kinchloe; and brothers Roy Burke, James Burke, Merle Burke and Melvin Burke.
