Doris Aymar, 89, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at the Hand County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 31 at the First United Methodist Church in Miller with the Rev. Mark Johnsen officiating. Burial followed at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller. Friends and family may sign Doris’ online register at www.remboldfuneralhome.com.

Doris Mae Phillips was born on March 31, 1923, to Claude and Bertha (Marshall) Phillips, the fifth of 16 children. She received her elementary education in a rural school located one mile from her home. Doris graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1941.

On June 15, 1941, Doris married her high school sweetheart, Glenn E. Aymar, at the St. Lawrence parsonage. They lived on the family farm in Greenleaf Township in Hand County, until the death of Glenn on April 5, 1970. To this union, one son, Duane Lee was born. Doris moved to Miller in 1974 and resided there until her death.

Doris was a member of the Greenleaf United Methodist Church and later the First United Methodist Church in Miller, and the Greenleaf Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed working in her garden, raising lots of chickens on the farm, and working alongside her husband and son. Doris was a Shaklee distributor, working at K&K Greenery in the springtime, and other businesses in Miller. She enjoyed all the school activities of her grandchildren and later, the arrival of her six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye. She doted, admired, and enjoyed time with them.

Survivors include her son, Duane and his wife Sandie of Miller; two grandchildren, Dwight and his wife Connie of Miller and Stacie and her husband Shawn Abbas of Sioux Falls; six great-grandchildren, Ashley, Glenn, and Kathryn Aymar, and Austin, Kassandra, and Xavier Abbas; brothers, Roger Phillips of Kingfisher, Okla., Donald (Karen) Phillips of Oregon City, Ore., Jerry Phillips of Sherwood, Ore., Steve (Margaret) Phillips of Pierre; sisters, Erma (Victor) Woodruff of Wolsey, Mona Brock of Scappoose, Ore., Lora Stoudt of Vancouver, Ore., and Thyria Ellis of San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law, La Vern Phillips of Miller and Louella Phillips of Vancouver, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, and eight brothers and sisters.

Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Doris’ arrangements.
