Delano David Wurz was born May 26, 1940 in Huron, S.D. to Justina (Jessie) Walter-Wurz and David Wurz. Del attended a rural school in Doland and graduated from Huron College with a degree in education in May of 1960.

A few short months later on August 26, 1960, Del married the love of his life, Carol Jean Tschetter at Mount Olivet Church in Huron, where they resided for the next few years. They welcomed their one and only child, Tamera (Tammy) Dawn, on January 4, 1962 and moved to Miller, S.D. and have been there ever since.

Del taught middle school in Miller for many years. In addition to teaching, Del was also an assistant wrestling and basketball coach.

After years of teaching, Del became an agent for the American Family Insurance company in Miller. Del and Carol, the office secretary, created a very trustable and successful insurance company in rural South Dakota and have received many awards and recognitions for their work.

Del and Carol shared 52 joyous years together. Some of their most enjoyable times were in watching their daughter grow up, getting married, and then raising a family of her own. They enjoyed spending quality time with their four grandkids, traveling, gardening, and camping. Some of Del’s personal hobbies were woodworking, fishing, and he loved nothing more than taking Carol out for an afternoon drive.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Miller; daughter, Tammy (John) Barnes of Huron; four grandchildren, Brett (Jennifer) Barnes of Mitchell, S.D., Jackie (Mike) Freeman of Sherwood, Ark., Jessica Barnes of Gladstone, Mo., and Bryan Barnes of Mitchell, S.D.; three great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Del was preceded in death by his parents, David and Jessie Wurz.

Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Delano’s arrangements.
