The Sunshine Bible Crusaders girls’ basketball team had the season ended in the District 5B semi-finals by the Sully Buttes Chargers, by a score of 56-21 in Onida on February 19.
The Chargers’ dominance was evident early as they outscored the Crusaders by a score of 11-1 after the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Chargers outscore the Crusaders 16-4, bringing the score to 27-5 at halftime.
In the second half, the Chargers continued their assault offensively outscoring the Crusaders13-4, making the score 40-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Crusaders were able to get their offense going, but it was too little too late, as they were outscored in the fourth quarter by a score of 16-12, and the final score was 56-21.
The Crusaders were cold from the field, shooting just 17 percent at 7-41 from the field and 41 percent from the free throw line at 7-17 for the game. The Chargers shot 48 percent from the field at 26-54 and 27 percent from the free throw line at 3-11 for the game.
The Crusaders’ scoring was done only by their five starters, led by Tricia Wilken with eight points and five rebounds. Cassie Beckwith added five points and a team high 10 rebounds. Shanna Moreland also grabbed 10 rebounds while scoring a single free throw. Sarah Pedersen added three points, six rebounds and a team high four blocks.
Leading the way for the Chargers was Chloe Lamb scoring 15 points. Remi Wientjes added seven points six steals and five assists.
