The Sunshine Bible Crusaders played their first game in their new gymnasium February 8, in a game with the Lower Brule Sioux. The Sioux spoiled the special occasion by defeating the Crusaders by the close score of 54-52.
The Sioux opened the game with a lead of 18-11 after the first period. The Crusaders battled back in the second quarter to take the lead by one at 30-29 at halftime. The Sioux regained the lead after the third period, with a score of 44-39 going into the fourth quarter. The Crusaders again battled back in the fourth but couldn’t overcome the deficit, and fell 54-52.
The Crusaders were led by Brian LaDue with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jaden Brockel added four assists, while Daniel Pedersen added a team-leading five steals.
Latrell LaRoche led the Sioux with 16 points. Thomas Eagle Thunder added 15 points and a team high 11 rebounds.
