Crusader boys, girls split with Pirates

The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders hosted the Highmore Harrold Pirates in double-header action Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The Pirates won the girls’ contest by a score of 72-43, while the Crusaders won the boys’ contest by a score of 69-47.

The Crusader girls fell behind early, after the first period by a score of 19-12. The Pirates’ numbers only grew in the second quarter to lead at halftime by a score of 31-22. The Pirates’ lead continued to grow in the second half to 16 after the third quarter at a score of 50-34. The Pirates kept up the dominance in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Crusaders 22-9 to end the game at 72-43.

The Crusaders were led by Tricia Wilken with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Pederson added 12 points and five rebounds. Cassie Beckwith added four points, with Heather Deal adding two points.

The Pirates were led by McKenzee Zilverberg with 14 points. Rachel Houdek added 13 points.

In the boys’ game, the Crusaders asserted their dominance in the first quarter and outscored the Pirates 19-8. In the second quarter, the Crusaders outscored the Pirates by a score of 17-12 to lead 36-20 at halftime. In the third quarter the Crusaders outscored the Pirates 15-14 to lead 51-34. In the fourth quarter the Crusaders outscored the pirates 18-13 to reach the final score of 69-47.

Brian LaDue led the Crusaders with 18 points, and Jaden Brockel added 16 points. The Pirates were led by Hadley Hamlin with 18 points, with Jordan Houdek adding nine points.
