The 2011 HuntSAFE graduates had a great pheasant hunt at Kenny Werdel’s shooting preserve this fall. The Wall Lake Club and Kenny Werdel did a great job of putting that together and the kids shot a lot of pheasants. Also, the second shotgun winner was picked during the youth pheasant hunt, and Camryn Wagner was the lucky recipient. The .243 rifle given to a young hunter for purchasing a youth deer license was won by Tanner Cain. Congratulations.

The Department of Game, Fish and Parks stocked 400 rainbow trout in the Miller City pond at the park on October 6. The youth fishing derby was held on October 8 at 1 p.m. The weather was nice but not many fish were caught. Appreciation to everybody who helped with the fishing derby. Next year we are going to wait a few weeks after the fish are stocked before we have the youth derby.

Now that the derby is over, anyone can go to the city pond and fish for the trout. The daily limit is five trout per person, with no exceptions. There were a few instances last year where a few adults were taking way more trout than they should have. Even though the pond will winterkill, I want everyone to have a chance to harvest some trout. Last year the trout bit really well around Nov. 1.
