Charles William Haigh, 62, died March 2, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D.
Charlie was born December 15, 1950 in Miller, S.D. to Lionel “Shorty” and Matilda Haigh. He graduated from Miller High School in 1969.
He volunteered for the US Navy, and served as a bomb handler on the aircraft carrier USS Bonhomme Richard during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Black Hills State University.
He was plant foreman for Delzer Constrution during Interstate 90 construction. He was a private pilot and skydiver, with over 250 jumps. Went to Southeast Alaska, where he was a commercial salmon/halibut fisherman.
After moving to Lake Tahoe, Calif., Charlie became assistant security chief for Caesar’s Palace Casino. Upon returning to the Black Hills, worked for Mike O’Connell at the Dakota Territory and the Gold Dust Casino in Deadwood.
Ill health sent him to the VA Hospital in Sturgis, and then on to Hot Springs.
Survivors include brothers, Duane and Robert, and sister, Katherine. Also, longtime friends: Ross, Bauer, Leland, Gary Keene, Albert, Mike “MW” White and Hoof.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral services will be at a later date in Miller.
