THESE STUDENTS RECEIVED A VARIETY of scholarships. L to r, Alan Ames received the Class of 1951 Memorial Scholarship; Keith Blachford received a Lake Area Technical Institute Foundation Scholarship; Leanne Koeck received a Coca-Cola FFA Scholarship and also a Lake Area Technical Institution Foundation Scholarship; and Kodee Beckett received a Hyde-Hand County Farm Bureau Scholarship.

    Senior award ceremony held May 17

    RECIPIENTS OF THE SHAWN OLIGMUELLER Scholarship ($500 each) were Jordan DeBoer, Cole Swartz and Austin Schaff. Audrey Oligmueller did the presentation.

    Graduating seniors were presented with numerous scholarships totaling thousands of dollars at the senior award ceremony held May 17 at the MHS Theatre.

    In addition, academic and community recognition was recognized.

    Awards presented to top MHS musicians

    JACOB JOY was awarded the Most Dedicated Band Student designation at the May 9 concert.

    On Thursday, May 9 the 7-12 Miller Junior-Senior High music department presented their Spring Music Program at the Miller Armory. The night was filled with much music and many awards for the students. Desiree Yeigh presented Junior High Band Awards.

    Miller youth awarded road racing license

    Drew Sivertsen, Miller High School freshman, made history May 11, 2013. He was the fourth teen under the age of 16 to be awarded a road-racing racing license by the Central Road Racing Association, in the 42 years since the association’s conception in 1970.

    Drew had to meet a high level of criteria just to be allowed to apply for a license with the CRA, namely to attend professional racing schools and gain experience on a professional race course.

    Hurd, Schroeder elected to Miller Board of Education

    The school board election for the Miller School District was held Tuesday, April 16. Two board members were to be selected from a field of three candidates. Present board member Kurt Pfeifle chose not to seek re-election.

    A total of 423 district residents cast votes. Jonathon Hurd received the most votes, with 374, and will be new to the board. Incumbent Connie Schroeder will serve another term. She received 265 votes. The third candidate, Kevin Watts, received 145 votes.

    The board will reorganize in July, at the beginning of the 2014 fiscal year. Hurd and Schroeder will each serve a two-year term.
