    Animals pay visits to Good Sam residents

    Apologies for any incomplete or lack of news in last week’s paper. I forgot the Memorial Day deadline so turned in news for two weeks last week. The newspaper lacked space to print both weeks in complete form. Sorry for any news items that were not printed.

    I do want to again congratulate Brian Seeman, that the residents chose on May 21 as June’s Shining Star of the Month.

    Sister Deb Nelson to celebrate 25 years as Presentation Sister

    Sister Deb Nelson will celebrate her 25th anniversary as an Aberdeen Presentation Sister on June 30, 2013.

    She formerly served as a parish minister at Miller and Wessington.

    Sister Deb, daughter of Don Nelson and Mary (Holzer) Nelson, graduated from Mobridge High School in 1984. She earned an associate’s degree in early childhood development from Presentation College, Aberdeen; a bachelor’s degree in theology from Creighton University,

    Annual picnic celebrates family, friends & fun

    Bring a lawn chair, grab an umbrella, and plan to enjoy a day of fun and fellowship at the South Hand Old Settlers’ Picnic on Friday, June 21. The annual event is located south of Miller at Vis Grove, which is 17 miles south on SD Highway 45, six miles west and a quarter mile south. Come for the whole day, or stop for only a portion!

    Father Murtha to be honored on ordination anniversary

    St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Wessington will be celebrating Father Chester Murtha’s 20th anniversary on Sunday, June 23 at noon in the Wessington City Park.

    Following 11 a.m. Mass the, church will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. Everyone is invited and is asked to bring a hot dish and a salad or dessert.

    Baby shower planned for Clarke, McGillvrey

    A baby shower is planned for Saturday, June 15 in honor of the daughter of Bridgett Clarke and Josh McGillvrey.

    The shower will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Legion Hall in Wessington.

    Bridal shower for Laura Haiar

    A bridal shower is planned in honor of Laura Haiar, bride-to-be of Jared Wulf.

    The shower will be held Sunday, June 23 at 2 p.m. at the American Bank & Trust community room in Miller.

    Guests are asked to bring a favorite recipe.

    Christiansen-Hamm reception planned

    A cake and punch reception is planned for Kayla (Christiansen) and Wrangler Hamm, who were married June 1 in Canada.

    The reception will be held Saturday, June 22 at the Miller Golf Course, beginning at 7 p.m.

    A wedding dance featuring the South Hand Band will follow, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
